ABOUT THIS CONCERT
This is the closing concert of the second Musikwoche Hitzacker edition under the MCO's artistic direction.
Our very own concert lab – that's what we somtimes like to call the “Musikwoche Hitzacker", the renowned festival whose artistic directorship the MCO took over in 2024. Now in our second year, we have once again prepared ten exciting days of concerts and events, combining the familiar with the unfamiliar, and focusing on musical dialogue and new insights. We look forward to having you join us on this journey of discovery!
Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes, a long-time close partner and friend of the MCO's, will join the Orchestra for several concerts this spring, focusing on music composed in Paris in the 1920s, when the French capital experienced one of the culturally most exciting times in its history. Ernest Hemingway, who lived in Paris between 1921 and 1926 with his first wife Hadley, wrote about this time in his last book, 'A Moveable Feast', which served as an inspiration for the programming of this year's Musikwoche.
To conclude this year's festival, Leif Ove Andsnes and members of the MCO celebrate music in all its richness of sounds and colors. You will enjoy the best-known of Joseph Haydn's three piano concertos, Ludwig van Beethoven's pulsing octet for woodwinds, and the deeply fascinating piano quintet by French composer Louis Vierne.
