ARTISTIC PLANNING MANAGER (M/W/D)
The Mahler Chamber Orchestra
seeks a qualified candidate to fill the position of
Artistic Planning MANAGER
Full-time (40 hr/week) for roughly one year from ca. 1 July 2024 until ca. 30 June 2025
The
Mahler Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1997 by a group of young musicians,
supported by Claudio Abbado, with the vision of creating an independent
international ensemble. The orchestra is made up of 50 core members from more than 25
different countries. The orchestra is governed jointly by its management team,
located in Berlin, and an elected Board of musicians; the orchestra’s members
are involved in democratic decision-making processes. The MCO works as an
international collective that comes together regularly for tours and concerts
all over the world; it has performed in more than 40 countries on five
continents.
The artistic projects of the Mahler
Chamber Orchestra reflect the basic characteristics of the ensemble:
music-making at the highest possible level, flexibility, curiosity, artistic
dialogue. The orchestra develops concept-based projects, programmes and formats,
often stretching over several seasons, in intensive artistic exchange with
high-profile soloists and conductors and in cooperation with an international
network of presenters and festivals.
Your
responsibilities
As Artistic Planning Manager, you work closely with the Director of Artistic Planning to create and develop the MCO’s programmes and touring projects. The Artistic Planning department consults closely with the orchestra’s Board and Managing Director.
Your tasks include:

Project conception and planning in collaboration with the Director of Artistic
Planning
-
Coordination of planning aspects with external partners (international
presenters and agencies)

Booking of conductors, soloists and other artists
-
Contractual negotiations with artists and presenters (under consideration of
international regulations regarding taxes and charges)

Creation and monitoring of project budgets
-
Logistical feasibility checks for tour planning
-
Coordination of rehearsal scheduling and longer-term logistics with presenters
and agencies

Representative role on tour with the orchestra including relationship
management with artists and other partners

Contributing work on funding applications in coordination with the Development
department

Coordination with the Communications department on artistic content for
external communications
Your qualifications
-
Completed degree in the field of arts management, musicology, business, law, or
other related area
- Work
experience in classical music management and in an international context
-
In-depth knowledge of orchestra repertoire and interest in current developments
and innovation in the cultural sector

Experience in the areas of artistic planning and/or production
-
Interest in working conceptually and contributing to the development of new
artistic content
-
Independent and reliable working style
-
Structured and detail-oriented way of working
-
Ability to work in a team and good communication skills

Competence in spoken and written German and English
-
Familiarity with common computer programs (incl Microsoft 365, Asana) and the
ability to learn new software

Interest in working in an international context with regular travel
