ABOUT THIS CONCERT
The Lucerne Festival Orchestra, founded in 2003 by Claudio Abbado (1933–2014), is comprised of acclaimed soloists, chamber musicians and music professors, with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra at its core. The orchestra has grown to become an international sensation, particularly for its outstanding performances of the Mahler and Bruckner symphonies under the baton of Claudio Abbado, who served as artistic director until his death in 2014.
This concert under the baton of young Latvian conductor Andris Nelsons features Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony no. 36 K. 425 (Linz Symphony) and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony no. 5.
