This year’s second tour with our Artistic Partner, Yuja Wang, almost feels like a vacation: We begin in the breathtakingly beautiful town of Evian, continue to Montpellier in the south of France, and then enjoy our concert at Festival International Colmar. From there, we move on to the Rheingau Festival and Klavierfestival Ruhr in Germany. The next concert will lead us south again, to Italy, and finally to Athens (Greece).
In our suitcases: fascinating music full of contrasts, spanning more than 130 years. The program begins with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, which premiered in 1807. Yuja Wang then joins us for Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2, in F-minor, first performed in 1830. But a concert with Yuja Wang would not be complete without a bridge to the Twentieth century: the Concerto in E-flat major for Chamber Orchestra, also known as Dumbarton Oaks, by Igor Stravinsky (whose first performance was conducted by Nadia Boulanger in 1938), is a piece much loved by our musicians. It will lead us to the second piano concerto of our program (piece to be confirmed).
