ABOUT THIS CONCERT
Grafenegg and its famous Wolkenturm (Cloud Tower) have become a regular summer venue for the MCO since 2007. The soloist for tonight's concert will be the young Israeli pianist Ariel Lanyi, last year's winner of the Prix Serdang, founded by Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder in 2022: 'Ariel is at a crucial point in his career. What distinguishes him is his ability to immerse himself deeply in the music and connect with it. He doesn't just play the notes; he lives the music, striving to grasp its essence and reflect it with exceptional intensity, sensitivity, and expressive maturity.' Ariel Lanyi will interpret Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23, one of the composer's works most loved by the public.
Another all-time favorite with audiences worldwide has been Antonín Dvořák's Symphony from the New World. When premiered at Carnegie Hall in 1893 with the New York Symphony Orchestra, it was an immediate success and quickly became the composer's most popular work.
The concert will start with a new work by Eberhard Kloke's The Answered Question. As the title suggests, this piece is a sort of replica to Charles Ives' popular The Unanswered Question. This composition was commissioned by this year's Musikfest Berlin which focused on the works of Charles Ives.
A founding member and former concertmaster of the MCO, Antonella Manacorda takes the baton, a conductor with whom we share fond memories of many inspiring concerts together.
