ABOUT THIS CONCERT

Since 2009, the MCO Academy has offered an educational model that provides young musicians with a high-quality orchestral experience and a unique platform for networking and international exchange. In addition to audition training, physical awareness classes, individual coaching and orchestral playing, the Academy also includes chamber music workshops which emphasize the MCO’s characteristic chamber music approach to music-making. Complemented by a mentoring programme, career talks and further activities, the Academy fosters creative and independent thinking and offers a comprehensive and modern approach for professional musicians of the 21st century.

This year, we are thrilled to invite Tugan Sokhiev as the conductor for performances of Prokofiev's Suite from Romeo and Juliet. It's through the music of Prokofiev we first met the conductor, when we worked together in Aix-en-Provence on the Love of the three oranges. The programme in the Academy also consists of Dvořák's second cello concerto in B minor, the last solo concerto written by the composer, for which we gladly meet with cellist Kian Soltani for the first time.

The Academy will visit its yearly venues in Dortmund, Cologne, and Essen. This year, the project will end in the city of Toulouse.
