ABOUT THIS CONCERT
This is the second of two programmes the Mahler Chamber Orchestra performs at the chamber music festival Rencontres Musicales in Évian-les-Bains. For the second time in a row, the orchestra has been invited by the Quatuor Modigliani to take part in its festival. In accordance with the festival’s philosophy of exploring chamber music in its various forms, this all-French concert programme features diverse repertoire:
Following Albert Roussel’s Sinfonietta for Strings, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra is joined by Olivier Latry, incumbent organist at Notre-Dame de Paris, for Francis Poulenc’s Concerto for Organ, Timpani and Strings. The organ also plays an essential part in Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem in its original chamber version, which the MCO will perform under conductor Fabien Gabel and in collaboration with the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne.
The concert takes place in the L’Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption, a beautiful church dating back to the thirteenth century, where the Mahler Chamber Orchestra will be performing for the first time.
