ABOUT THIS CONCERT
The Mahler Chamber Orchestra returns to its summer home, the inspiring city of Lucerne. Since its inception in 2003, when the illustrious Claudio Abbado meticulously curated this orchestra by selecting musicians from the most distinguished ensembles across Europe, the MCO has served as the nucleus of the prestigious Lucerne Festival Orchestra (LFO). We eagerly anticipate our annual return to this place where we have amassed numerous treasured moments both on and off the stage.
This year, the festival has chosen the theme of "Paradise," and the grand programme promises to offer a diverse array of perspectives on an idyllic existence. Mahler's third symphony is a fine example of the composer's search for paradise in nature. The piece was on a sequence of natural images that the composer detailed in programmatic subtitles to the various movements.
