ABOUT THIS CONCERT
The Mahler Chamber Orchestra ushers in 2017 with a residency at the International Music Festival of the Canary Islands, which features both orchestral and chamber music concerts on the seven main islands of the archipelago.
In the first of two opening concerts of this year’s festival, the MCO performs a diverse programme bringing together Czech music – a specialty of conductor Jakub Hrůša – and the music of local Canarian composer Gustavo Trujillo. Violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann returns with Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 for his second collaboration with the MCO.
The MCO most recently appeared in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in a concert with John Eliot Gardiner in 2012.
