ABOUT THIS CONCERT
First premiered in May of 2016 at the prestigious Hamburg International Music Festival and subsequently performed in Berlin, this staged concert was conceptualised by Patricia Kopatchinskaja in what was her fourth collaboration with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. The programme is performed without conductor. Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Concertmaster Meesun Hong Coleman, and individual MCO musicians lead the diverse works. In this programme the standard roles and rules of concert performance are questioned and explored both visually and musically. Bye Bye Beethoven had its US premiere at the Ojai festival and will also be performed in Aldeburgh on this tour.
What unites Charles Ives, Joseph Haydn, John Cage, Johann Sebastian Bach, György Kurtág, and Ludwig van Beethoven? The answer is the artistic forces of Patricia Kopatchinskaja and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in their compelling Bye Bye Beethoven programme. Here orchestra and soloist together forge a creative and musical dream-team.
