Having arrived from Bodø in the Arctic Circle via the torrential rain of London, San Sebastián was a reminder that it was in fact Summer.

The incredible intensity of the Beethoven Journey which had just come to a triumphant end at the Proms still hung heavy in the air- where to go from here?

What better way to recover from the party hangover than with some Mozart in Spain!

If Beethoven is asking difficult questions then Mozart is providing the answers and it felt like a kind of therapy coming back to the easy humanity of the Jupiter Symphony and the C minor Mass after the raw energy of Beethoven.

Outside the Kursaal Concert Hall on the seafront of San Sebastián, surfers in wetsuits with their boards under their arms passed by the stage door giving us funny looks as we stood there in concert dress with instrument cases. Maybe it's time for a holiday?
