We are pleased to announce that José Maria Blumenschein has accepted the position of concertmaster at the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He joins forces with Matthew Truscott, sharing the vital responsibility of leading the orchestra through its musical endeavours. A truly momentous occasion, as it is the first time in the orchestra's 25 years of existence that it has appointed not one but two concertmasters.

Mr Blumenschein is widely recognized as one of the most talented and versatile violinists of his generation. From the very first project he played with the MCO in 2021, it was clear that there is a special connection between him and the orchestra. The collaboration most recently resulted in acclaimed performances of Schönberg's First Chamber Symphony throughout Europe and America, with The Times hailing it as the most exciting performance of the piece seen to date.

We look forward to experiencing how José Maria Blumenschein will contribute to the Mahler Chamber Orchestra's mission of bringing extraordinary musical moments to a global audience.
