September 2019
Poised and precise, elegant and immaculate – these are just some of the words that have been used to describe the partnership between Mitsuko Uchida and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra since she became our Artistic Partner in 2016. As we continue to explore Mozart's Piano Concertos together, Uchida's fresh and flowing style will pair beautifully with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra's agile chamber music approach as she directs these intimate interpretations from the keyboard.
This September, the collaboration continues with performances across central Europe, in Bucharest, Cologne, Vienna and Innsbruck.
Between composing the F major concerto (No. 19, K,459) and the D minor (No. 20, K,466), Mozart discovered new ways for the soloist and orchestra to interact, to converse. This transition in approach is marked in our programme by the piece that falls between them, Richard Strauss' Metamorphosen. Led by MCO concertmaster Matthew Truscott, this piece was chosen especially by Uchida to draw attention to the MCO's vibrant string sound.
