The idea for a unique festival orchestra of international standing in Lucerne goes back to Arturo Toscanini, who in 1938 convened acclaimed virtuosos of the time into an ensemble with the legendary “Concert de Gala". Since the creation of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra (LFO) by Claudio Abbado in 2003, members of the MCO have formed the core of this group which regularly convenes for a series of concerts every year during the Lucerne Spring and Summer Festivals.
Under the baton of the Festival's Music Director Riccardo Chailly, this tour will lead the Orchestra not to Lucerne, but to Paris and, for the first time in its history, to Hamburg. 23-year-old violinist Daniel Lozakovich will play with the LFO for the second time this year, presenting the violin concert of Jean Sibelius which is much loved by audiences worldwide.
