ABOUT THIS CONCERT
On this tour, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra pays tribute to one of classical music’s most notorious revolutionaries, Ludwig van Beethoven. This special chamber music concert, featuring Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto and musicians of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, closely adheres to the theme of Beethovenfest Bonn 2016: Revolution.
While Beethoven stands in the spotlight in the orchestral concert, this chamber music concert examines the term “revolution” in a literal sense: the way in which an object undergoes circular motion. J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations and Steve Reich’s Violin Phase are established works in the classical music canon, while Pekka Kuusisto creates his own cyclical compositions by improvising with his loop machine.
