ABOUT THIS CONCERT

The Mahler Chamber Orchestra's 2024 residency at the Schlossfestspiele Ludwigsburg Festival brings together conductor Anja Bihlmaier and violinist Renaud Capuçon. The programme focuses on Romantics, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. Both Schumann's Violin Concerto and Brahms Symphony No. 4 provoked controversial reactions at the time. Whilst Schumann's concerto was hidden away in the back of a cupboard as the work of a madman, Brahms' symphony spread like wildfire as progressive orchestral music.

This concert is the first that the MCO performs under Bihlmaier's baton, a conductor known for her musical intuition and ability to combine passion and precision. Together with Renaud Capuçon, a long-time friend of the MCO, the complex works in this concert shine in all their beauty.
