ABOUT THIS CONCERT
The Mahler Chamber Orchestra, side-by-side with Musicians of the MCO Academy at Orchesterzentrum|NRW, perform Berg's Seven Early Songs and Schubert's "Great" C-major symphony with Fabio Luisi and soprano Christiane Karg in Cologne.
Both are transitional works, of one era into another. Schubert's emotive musical language gave the classic forms a new life, which ushered music into the Romantic era. At its other end, Berg's "Seven Early Songs" show the composer pushing against the limit of his material, already searching for new modes of expression.
Since 2009, the MCO has been training the next generation of orchestral musicians, sharing their knowledge through the MCO Academy, which draws talented musicians together from across the world for a week of intensive coaching and workshops in partnership with Orchesterzentrum|NRW in Dortmund, before these students are given the chance to perform alongside their MCO mentors.
This concert will be broadcast on Kölner Philharmonie's philharmonie.tv
