ABOUT THIS CONCERT
This concert has been cancelled due to regulations implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Poised and precise, elegant and immaculate – these are just some of the words that have been used to describe the performances of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and our Artistic Partner Mitsuko Uchida. Four years after our first tour together in Japan, we return to share our celebrated approach to Mozart's piano concertos once again.
From Sapporo down to Hyogo, these two weeks bring the MCO's signature approach to audiences across the entire country, and feature two performances at Tokyo's renowned Suntory Hall.
The programme in Hyogo transports listeners back to Mozart's early years in Vienna, with his Piano Concerto No. 13, before passing through Jörg Widmann's sonic labyrinth, a chamber orchestra arrangement of his Choralquartett, on towards Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20, where piano and orchestra freely exchange material and ideas with all the dynamic intimacy of chamber music, the ideal representation for what makes the partnership between Uchida and the MCO so special.
