ABOUT THIS CONCERT
In this programme Patricia Kopatchinskaja joins the Mahler Chamber Orchestra for a truly virtuosic orchestral programme of Béla Bartók, Igor Stravinsky, Guillaume de Machaut, and György Ligeti. For the final work of the concert – Ligeti’s Violin Concerto – MCO cellist and founding member Philipp von Steinaecker assumes the role of conductor, with Patricia Kopatchinskaja as the soloist. The MCO last performed this work with Patricia Kopatchinskaja at the George Enescu Festival in September 2017; it is a favorite concerto of this superlative violinist. All other works on the programme are performed without conductor. The versatility of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra musicians can be repeatedly noted in this programme; many woodwind players also perform on additional instruments during the Ligeti.
