ABOUT THIS CONCERT

This project takes the Mahler Chamber Orchestra back to the celebrated Elbphilharmonie, where the orchestra – under the direction of conductor Matthias Pintscher – will join an all-star line-up at the Hamburg International Music Festival.
This year’s festival theme, “Utopia”, is beautifully communicated in the MCO programme, which opens with Friede auf Erden, an a capella choral work by Arnold Schoenberg sung by the Arnold Schoenberg Choir, and concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9, featuring soprano Iwona Sobotka, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, tenor Steve Davislim, and baritone Hanno Müller-Brachmann.
Having performed twice in the much-acclaimed Elbphilharmonie during its 2017 inaugural season, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra looks forward to its return to Hamburg, and to sharing the stage with partners old and new.
