ABOUT THIS CONCERT
The Mahler Chamber Orchestra embarks on its first tour of 2018 by reuniting with Artistic Advisor Daniele Gatti with a programme that celebrates their focus on the symphonic repertoire.
This tour marks the beginning of the transition from the symphonic works of Ludwig van Beethoven – which the MCO had worked on intensively with Daniele Gatti from January 2015 until May 2016 as part of a Beethoven cycle – to those of Robert Schumann. In a few months, the MCO performs an additional Beethoven-Schumann programme before embarking on a symphonic cycle dedicated to Schumann in the upcoming season. On this tour, Schumann’s Genoveva Overture will be played alongside Beethoven’s Symphony no. 4 and Schumann’s Symphony no. 3, also known as the Rhenish Symphony.
This concert takes place under the auspices of Migros Culture Percentage Classics, which has brought renowned artists and ensembles to different Swiss cities for over seventy years. The Mahler Chamber Orchestra’s most recent appearance in Zurich took place in 2013, with Conductor Laureate Daniel Harding and pianist Rafał Blechacz.
