ABOUT THIS CONCERT

Portugal takes the spotlight on this tour, which sees the Mahler Chamber Orchestra celebrating the 10th edition of the Temporada Darcos Festival with two concerts, the first one in Torres Vedras and the second one in Lisbon.

Since its beginnings, the Temporada Darcos Festival has striven to bring Portuguese artists and the classical music scene in Portugal to the fore. It is only fitting that the programme features works by two Portuguese composers, Sergio Azevedo’s Sinfonietta Semplice and Nuno Côrte-Real’s Concerto Vedras; on this tour, Côrte-Real joins the MCO on the podium to conduct both pieces.

In continuing with its tradition of performing orchestral works led by its concertmaster, the MCO plays both Haydn and Mozart symphonies under the direction of Matthew Truscott.

The MCO’s most recent appearance in Lisbon was in 2013 with Artistic Partner Mitsuko Uchida. This concert marks its first concert at the Cultural Centre of Belém.
