New Managing Director of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra as of 1 October 2015 is Michael Adick. He succeeds Ole Bækhøj, who moves to a new position in Berlin.
Michael Adick, who studied law, history of art and theatre studies in Tubingen and Munich, started his professional career as a lawyer. He has been with the MCO since 1999, and brings with him to his new position years of experience as the orchestra’s Director of Finance and Administration and a long history of close collaboration with the orchestra and its board. Michael has played a significant role in the development of the orchestra’s structure and identity since its early years.
Michael Adick: “I look forward to the challenging work of guiding this very special ensemble into the future. I am happy to continue my close work with the orchestra’s nomadic network of excellent musicians and to develop further the collaborations with our outstanding Artistic Partners, in particular in the area of opera, which has been a special talent and focus of the orchestra from its first moments.”
Annette zu Castell, Chairwoman of Mahler Chamber Orchestra e.V.: “Michael Adick is the ideal person to lead the orchestra’s management in the coming years. For many years he has ensured the orchestra’s financial security in a difficult market, and his detailed knowledge of the MCO’s artistic goals and strengths means he is uniquely qualified to guide the orchestra in all artistic and structural decisions. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Michael in his new role.
We would like to thank Ole Bækhøj for his work with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra over the past years. Ole guided us through a redefinition process for our brand and identity, which helped us to formulate our value proposition and create a new website which authentically expresses our core identity. Ole worked effectively to expand our presence in markets such as the USA, South America, Japan, and China, with a clear vision and appreciation of the MCO as a truly international chamber orchestra.”
Ole Bækhøj: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my journey traveling and working closely with the excellent musicians and staff of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Over the years they have developed a unique culture of working together and I strongly believe that this culture combined with the professional and personal qualities of the individuals leads to the very special results in music making.”
