For the second time in a row, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra has been invited by the Quatuor Modigliani to take part in its chamber music festival, Rencontres Musicales, in Évian. In accordance with the festival’s philosophy of exploring chamber music in its various forms, the MCO performs two different concert programmes with works ranging from a piece for piano solo to a requiem for chamber orchestra.
The first concert programme draws parallels between Parisian and Viennese works by Schönberg, Ravel, Satie, Debussy and Mahler from around 1900, whereas the second – with works by Poulenc and Fauré – includes the organ as a chamber music partner.
This tour features the MCO debuts of three French artists – mezzo-soprano Karin Deshayes, conductor Fabien Gabel and organist Olivier Latry – as well as one Swiss ensemble, the Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne.
As diverse as the concert programmes are the two beautiful venues in Évian. While the Mahler Chamber Orchestra will be performing in the beautiful L’Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption for the first time in the second concert, the first concert takes place in the familiar and extraordinary Grange au Lac, with its integrated wooden elements, fantastic acoustics, and idyllic surroundings, overlooking Lake Geneva.
